Carrie makes a good point, but this one caught me. I say, Bravo, Betsy Hearne. Bravo, "Arlene Sardine," and it's about time. As for Betsy's question: "Will the shock effect of a dead hero do any damage to unsuspecting children?" Let's not sell our children short. It's adults who seem to tiptoe around the truth. The further society grows from its agrarian and hunter-gatherer roots, the stronger grows the cry "we must protect our children." From what? That food comes from other than the market? I applaud books such as "Arlene Sardine." I applaud the inciteful review, and I hope it nets an ocean of readers. I just, wonder if Chris Raschka hadn't had his track record, would he have gotten this book published?
various Middle Eastern groups who live to die for Allah in suicide bombing runs.
Yikes. It's a book for children about how a sardine gets from the sea into a can in your supermarket forheavensake. Why can't it be left at that?
