Do teachers read book reviews?

I know that in eight years of teaching high school students, I only read one or two reviews. For one thing, the lack of spare time made it inconvenient to read reviews in the school library's journals. For another, the district curriculum made it impossible to add anything of my own choosing. Teachers were given a list of novels from which to choose, and there wasn't a budget to supplement that list with a class set of anything else.

While this may have been typical at the schools I was in, it doesn't mean that teachers don't need or shouldn't read reviews. It's just that the structural aspects of the profession sometimes make it difficult to think of anything but immediate needs.
