Well, now that jacket cover illustration has been raised as a topic...I happened to see the paperback version of The Friends in the YA section of our library the other day. I read this in hardback and greatly enjoyed, though I thought that hardback jacket illustration would be a real off-putter to most older elementary school kids. The kids on that cover looked so young and nerdy, I doubted that any self-respecting fifth or sixth grader would pick it up. The paperback version, however, has a much hipper looking crew on the cover, which should help get it into more hands.
