hundred dresses

I don't know about first graders. The subject matter of prejudice and poverty are, in my opinion, a little too sophistocated. I used it at the beginning of the year when I was in elementary with third graders. It is easy enough for them to read themselves and the ideas of prejudice, treating people badly, poverty, are things that they can understand much more than first graders. If you want to read easy chapter books to them, the Aldo books, Cameron's Julian stories would be much more appropriate.

This is my opinion. I think 100 dresses is a wonderful story, but first graders are not quite ready. Michele
