This month we're going to be discussing the art of reviewing picture books for children. Janice Del Negro, editor of the Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books (BCCB), will be joining us as a guest. Janice has served as the editor of BCCB since the spring of 1996. Prior to that she worked as a children's librarian at Chicago Public Library and as a children's consultant for the State Library of North Carolina. Over the years she has reviewed for Booklist, School Library Journal and Kirkus. Most recently, Janice herself has become the author of a picture book with the publication this month of "Lucy Dove" (DK Ink, 1998).

We also encourage you to find and read an article which appeared in Horn Book Magazine earlier this year: "To Get a Little More of the Picture: Reviewing Picture Books" by Karla Kuskin (Horn Book, March/April 1998, pp. 1595).

I'll open the discussion with a general question: what sorts of things do you want a picture book review to tell you?
