John, as always, is eloquent and clear himself in defense of plot summary, and he makes some points that I must, guiltily, agree to. The guilt is because I almost never write plot summaries, and this is mostly because I am very bad at it. This is not to say that one can get away, even in the very short reviews most of us write, with no description of what actually happens in the book, but that I am far more interested in conveying how it feels to read the book than what it is
*about* exactly. Also, years of reviewing mysteries have left me pretty gunshy about revealing key plot lines. hmm. more to think about. GraceAnne
