My favorite letter is the hilarious incident where she relates how she had to read another DAMN MANUSCRIPT and got interrupted by neighbors. This letter, and many others, had me laughing out loud.
A book I want to reread soon, as a follow up to DG, is "The Annotated Charlotte's Web". I know there were lots of discussion of the illustrations in that one; and some manuscripts with editor's notes, if I'm not mistaken. And it might answer some questions about author replies to editor's letters.... I'm going to look it up.
And I really would love to sit down with Danny and the Dinosaur and go through it page by page (another favorite letter). This book is also a great introduction to the editing process. I want my 13 year old daughter to read it; I think she might be inspired to do editing as a career from letters like this. It's fascinating!
