Geez, Marc. Here we are all trying to give acclaim and recognition to you editors for the work you do, and you don't seem to want it!!! I guess that the intrinsic well being you get from a job well done is enough. Well, then, so be it, and we'll wait for your "dear genius" book to come out decades from now. In all seriousness, I can see your point. On the other hand, as a reader who enjoys well edited books, I can see the other side as well. It is obvious from
_Dear Genius_ that what you do takes special talent and diplomacy. I do see UN becoming less diplomatic and much more straight forward as the years progress. I also think that this probably reveals much more of the person she was as she reached her abilities as an editor. As the years go by, there seems to less coaxing and more "get to it already" on her part.
I am sure that we all probably like hearing the letters to authors and illustrators we admire the most. I have always been a Sendak fan, and particularly enjoy seeing a more private glimpse of this man. It would be fun to read the other part of this correspondence. UN saw the amazing quality of
_Where the wild things are_ immediately. This book really does dance and sing in a most amazing way. I have the Selma Lanes book and must look to see what is said in it about UN.
So, Marc, if you do not want to see your name on the book, just keep up the good work!!
(By the way, in case you haven't seen it, Marc is the author of _Art Attack: a short cultural history of the avant-garde_ which came out last spring with wonderful reviews. For those of you who are public and secondary school librarians, this book is a must. It is an excellent source for modern history, art history, art, music, and just good reading. The cover, by Chris Ratchka, really appeals to the ya crowd to get them into the important part--the text. So Marc has experience on both sides of the creative experience of producing a book.)
