Dear Genius, in addition to the books she published, keeps UN brilliantly alive. Leonard, you'v given us a gem. It ought to be required reading for every person who wants to be an editor.
But I agree with Susan Kuklin; editor's names should be in the books they've worked on. Dutton used to do this; don't know if they still do.
I can see one problem with it -- if an editor leaves the house mid-book and someone else takes over... However, in spite of that problem (or others that may be there), I can't help but feel that editors ought to get more visible credit than they do for their vision, their support and their creative input that pulls the best we have out of us. Good editors are worth their weight in gold -- I've been very fortunate to have lots of them.
