I can assure you all, that in southwest Wisconsin at least, farmers do wear overalls. My husband has several pairs hanging in the garage. If farm people are depicted wearing overalls in a work or family situation, then I wouldn't consider it a stereotype. If farmers are depicted wearing overall all the time, say on a trip to New York city, or other places where bibs would be out of place, then consider it a stereotype. Farmers wear overalls, just not all the time.
