Hello everyone! I returned from ALA in Washington D.C. about an hour ago and have joined the Cynthia Rylant discussion.

Just a bit of background information....

I have known Cyndi for about ten years. She lived in Kent, OH when I moved here to teach in the School of Library and Information Science. She graduated with a Master of Library Science degree several years before I came to Ohio. While she was in graduate school at Kent, her first children's book was published, When I Was Young in the Mountains illustrated by Diane Goode (Dutton, 1982) received a Caldecott Honor. Cyndi moved to the Pacific Northwest about four years ago and her westward trip was "highlighted" in a book published earlier this year titled Tulip Sees America (Blue Sky Press/Scholastic)

As K.T. mentioned, she is a versatile writer and has written board books, beginning readers, picture books, short story collections, poetry, nonfiction, novels for children and novels for teens. She has also illustrated board books and picture books. She is also very productive with eight titles set for release during fall 1998. For a preview of these new fall titles (and all her other books ) visit her personal website at http://www.rylant.com Cyndi's own life story, a scapbook of photos and a list of her books (with her comments on each one) can also be found at this site.

I'm looking forward to beginning the discussion with Cynthia Rylant's easy readers as K.T. suggested. I'd also be interested in your discussion of the and unique elements you see between the three series.

P.S. You might be interested to know that within the eight fall releases mentioned above there will be one new easy reader in each of the series of Henry and Mudge, Mr. Putter and Poppleton. If my count is correct, these new fall books will bring the totals to 18 Henry and Mudge, 8 Mr. Putter and 4 Poppleton.
