Megan, I do have experience in sharing this book with children as a K-5 library media specialist. It doesn't "fly" off the shelf, and in that way, I think that it is like so many other children's books that must search for their readership. However, I do find that whenever I have a child with the sort of sensibility that would allow him/her to appreciate the book's magic, its wisdom about the interconnectedness of all things and the synergy found in the best of life's events, and place the book in that child's hands, s/he returns full of pleasure at the experience. One of these kids, a fifth grade girl, actually came to the library each day during the last week of school, when we were valiantly trying to get all books in circulation back to the library and onto the shelves, to read THE VAN GOGH CAFE in small draughts all the way to the end.
