Dick's finger on the yearning shown in Rylant's books seems to get close to the heart of the matter. Yearning is so deep inside us, and brings up such deep-seated emotions. It's elusive, always just ahead. The reader recognizes it, reads on, and then continues to mull over the book, making it a part of themselves

And I do appreciate your mentioning A Blue-Eyed Daisy. That was the title that first won me over to Rylant's exquisite writing. That one is strung together like priceless pearls.
