Does anyone discuss children's books in terms of magical realism? In reading the comments about labeling The Islander or Van Gogh Cafe, I thought how much magical realism, as I understand it, beautifully describes the kind of book that shows magic infusing daily life. The characters usually accept the magic with ease, which so often is true in children's books. In Van Gogh Cafe, it says early on, "Clara is one reason for all of the magic in the cafe. She is ten and believes anything might happen."
