At the beginning of the month, we invite members of the CCBC-Net community to share announcements of upcoming events in the world of literature for children and teenagers.
KARLA KUSKIN will speak at the first annual CHARLOTTE ZOLOTOW LECTURE on Thursday, October 1, 1998, 7:30 pm in the Wisconsin Union Theater, Memorial Union, 800 Langdon Street, Madison, Wisconsin. Ms. Kuskin received the National Council of Teachers of English Award for Excellence in Poetry in 1979. Her many books include "The Philharmonic Gets Dressed" (Charlotte Zolotow/Harper & Row, 1988) and "The Upstairs Cat" (Clarion, 1997). The lecture was named to honor Charlotte Zolotow, distinguished author of more than 70 children's books and for 38 years a children's book editor with Harper & Row. Ms. Zolotow attended the University of Wisconsin from 19336. This is a free public lecture open to all adults with an interest in children's and young adult literature. TALKING BOOKS, MAKING CONNECTIONS is the theme of a two?y children's literature conference on October 16, 1998, at Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI. Speakers include Lois Ehlert, Russell Freedman, Jan Spivey Gilchrist, Eileen Lucas, Gretchen Mayo, Stuart Murphy, W. Nikola-Lisa, Katherine Paterson, Stella Pevsner, Pat Scales, Fay Tang, and David Wisniewski. For more information, please call 414(8s28.
Mark your 1999 calendars for POINTS OF VIEW, the IBBY Regional Children's and Young Adult Literature Conference that will be held Friday and Saturday, October 8-9, 1999, on the UW-Madison campus. This conference is sponsored by the United States Board of Books for Young People (USBBY) with the Cooperative Children's Book Center and the Office of Education Outreach for the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Confirmed speakers include: Virginia Buckley, Joanna Cole & Bruce Degen, Lois Ehlert, Sarah Ellis, Jeffrey Garrett, Kevin Henkes, Nina Ignatowicz, Hector Viveros Lee, Naomi Shihab Nye, Katherine Paterson and Junko Yokota.
