Terrie- thanks for giving us the tip on the Melvin Burgess interview at Amazon.com. I just visited the site and found the interview to be quite interesting reading. It's well-worth the trip. It's nice, too, to have the first chapter reprinted there, so that those of you who haven't had a chance to get your hands on the book yet can get a little taste of it.

I just got my own copy of the American hardcover edition yesterday and was surprised to see that it's already gone into second printing! It must be doing quite well here in the U.S.

One of the questions Amazon.com asked Burgess was how he felt about the change in title from "Junk" to "Smack." That was a question I was going to pose to CCBC-Netters: do you prefer one title over the other? I would also like to ask Marc Aronson of Henry Holt to tell us a bit about the decision to change the title for the American edition from the publisher's perspective.

Just wanted to let everyone know that there is an interview with Melvin Burgess on the Amazon.com web site. It is located at http://www.amazon.com/melvin-burgess-interview, and the first chapter is also reproduced.
