It's the first of the month, the time we invite all CCBC-Net subscribers to announce any children's and young adult literature events coming up in the near future.
1) Those of you attending the ALA conference in Washington, D.C., the last week in June will want to know about an excellent day-long pre-conference onThursday, June 25, 1998: Crossing Cultures, Boundaries, and Borders: Global Programming for Local Libraries. Nationally known speakers include noted poet Naomi Shihab Nye, author and Booklist Assistant Editor Hazel Rochman, futurist Hazel Henderson, and a foreign policy specialist. day of global exploration! 2) Poet Karla Kuskin will deliver the first annual Charlotte Zolotow lecture on Thursday, October 1, 1998, 7:30 pm in the Wisconsin Union Theater, Memorial Union, 800 Langdon Street, Madison, Wisconsin. Ms. Kuskin received the National Council of Teachers of English Award for Excellence in Poetry in 1979. Her many books include The Philharmonic Gets Dressed (Charlotte Zolotow/Harper & Row, 1988) and The Upstairs Cat (Clarion, 1997). This is a free public lecture open to all adults with an interest in children's and young adult literature.
