Best of the Best

I want to share the results of my annual little project that I've been doing for several years. I cross-check 8 review sources including CCBC Choices (the others are SLJ, Booklist, Book Links, ALA Notables, Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books, Horn Book, and PW). I always noticed that each list has different favorites than the other. Here is a list of the ONLY books that made it on a least 4 of the 8 lists. Remember, I only do this for fun, not scientific research. If it's flawed, then so be it. Side note - none of the titles made it on all 8 lists. Nobody made 7 out of the 8 lists. Only Out of the Dust, Rapunzel, and A Drop of Water made 6 of the lists. Interesting, huh? Don't the other 2 review sources believe that these three were among the best of the year?

Young Adult Fiction Cole, Brock. The Facts Speak for Themselves. Fine, Anne. The Tulip Touch. Mazer, Norma Fox. When She Was Good. Pullman, Philip. The Subtle Knife.
Biographies Adler, David. Lou Gehrig: The Luckiest Man. Giblin, James Cross. Charles A Lindbergh: A Human Hero. Jiang, Ji-li. Red Scarf Girl. Tillage, Leon. Leon's Story.
Poetry Adoff, Arnold. Love Letters. Myers, Walter Dean. Harlem.
Folklore Zelinski, Paul. Rapunzel.
Other Nonfiction Hampton, Wilborn. Kennedy Assassinated: The World Mourns Raschka, Chris. Mysterious Thelonius. Wick, Walter. A Drop of Water.
This, then, I contend is the Best of the Best of 1997. Comments?
