We recently had Matt Cibula from Madison visit our schools in Berlin, WI. He read his books to young students, but worked with fifth graders on Haiku poems. I heard a small portion of his presentation, but was blown away by how students responded to his directive to"write down all the color blues you can think of in one minute!" There were some very thoughtful reactions to this, and gave them a start to thinking about what they see around them. He advised them to become a writer by "1. write all the time. and 2. learn all there is about the world!" What a wonderful experience!
