Just to join the line, here, there is something so satisfying about being able to call up a piece of literature, whether it is poetry or prose. We have lost several generations who have missed this opportunity. The moment could come while sitting on an airplane, or in its terminal, or at a dinner table, or best, with a group of kids, and you want, (need) that turn of phrase. It can hold them as nothing else can. Its power in booktalking or storytelling or whatever is earthshattering. But, the best is when something in an ordinary conversation calls up a perfect description, one that you've found in a poet's work. If we don't encourage children and young adults to capture those lines for themselves, then we've not done our jobs.
