Thanks to M. Aronson for his insight into Beautiful Days...I fully appreciated, when reading this incredible story, that this was primary source material, first-hand insight into a truly terrible experience. Yet I was disconcerted by the "layers" of the story...not intriguing story upon story layers, but conflicting layers of author's voices...now we hear the child; then the author's overlay, then again, as the author translated her own original story...then the translator into English. I finally decided that the primary source aspect was too important a voice to be confused by the other voices! However, any further insight would be appreciated....
