I'd like to thank all of you who participated in the CCBC-Net discussion of the 1998 Newbery Honor books. In the course of our discussion, it's become even clearer that the 1998 committee chose a great group of books! I know you'll all continue to think about them and discuss them as you have opportunities to share them with children.
I'd especially like to thank Brenda Bowen for her contributions to our discussion from her perspective as the editor of "Out of the Dust." Before we turn to our discussion of the Coretta Scott King Award books, I'd like to invite any last comments Brenda or any of you have to make on this year's Newbery Award winner (or Honor Books).
I'd also like to take this time to remind you that "Lily's Crossing" was the subject of great discussion last fall. If you are new to the group
(or if you just want to reread the discussion), you can look up the archives for 10.1997.
