thanks to KT for the history info, which I didn't have at hand, and to Michelle for her clarification. I'd like to apologize for keeping this going past its due time. It is an interesting issue, but by the schedule we're on to Brenda's post on OUT OF THE DUST, and I feel a bit like the kids squabbling at the back of the class while the teacher is trying to go on with the lesson. Some day it would be fun to put the whole audience/taste issue into its proper context, which takes us into literary debates between ancients and moderns that have been going on for centuries. Marc
