I liked Megan's comment about Javaka Steptoe's illustrations being
"from-the heart responses to the poems." Perhaps, it was reading this book in February, but a few of the poems and illustrations together struck me as valentines--their use of some red and cut-out and collage techniques. Without the book in front of me right now I'm sorry I cannot respond more specifically. Judith Furash Children's Librarian Wheaton Regional Library Wheaton, MD
