It goes without saying that adults are choosing awards so adult taste does figure into the choice, but that's the case from the minute a manuscript is written by an adult and submitted to an editor (adult) and on down the line.

This discussion has brought up an interesting point. Has the final group of Newbery and Caldecott contenders ever been presented simultaneously to a panel of children at the same time they were presented to adults? How close did the choices match?

Also, the Children's Choice Awards are supposed to reflect what children like, but again the books are usually read to them by adults and as one person recently mentioned, she sometimes likes to give a nasty reading to a book she really doesn't like, so how much influence does that have?
