I don't want to discourage the important discussion CCBC participants are having on the blurring of fact and fiction. As this discussion continues, however, I also want to continue the discussion of the Coretta Scott King Award Winners and Honor Books by inviting comments on the CSK Illustrator books.

The winner of this year's Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award is In Daddy's Arms I Am Tall: African Americans Celebrating Fathers, illustrated by Javaka Steptoe (Lee & Low).

The honor books for the CSK Illustrator Award are:

Ashley Bryan's ABC of African American Poetry, illustrated and written by Ashley Bryan (Jean Karl/Atheneum);

The Hunterman and the Crocodile: A West African Folktale, illustrated and written by Baba Wague Diakite (Scholastic); and

Harlem: A Poem, illustrated by Christopher Myers and written by Walter Dean Myers (Scholastic).

The first thing I notice about these books is that three of them are poetry or poetry-related, and all of them have art that is not just distinguished, but also highly distinctive in style. What are your thoughts about one or more of these books honored by the Coretta Scott King Award Committee? Please share them, and continue to comment on the ongoing discussion as well, if you have ideas or opinions you'd like to add.
