This is probably evidence that I've been working on a nature magazine too long, but I just saw Rapunzel, and my second reaction (my first was how gorgeous it is) was to look at the spread with the sorceress' garden and think, What's a pangolin doing in Italy? There are several different species, but as far as I know they're all from Asia or Africa. Also, what is that little creature up in the tree? Looks Australian. And what kind of bird is that? I suppose Zelinsky was trying to let us know that this sorceress had wealth or power enough to be able to summon animals from whole other continents. Well, cool. I loved the way the cat grew up and went with Rapunzel into the wilderness. I also loved the way he wove bellflowers into the pictures. I wonder if the flower is known for having any effect on its users.
