Marc, checking the WWW, the LA Times Book Review does have a site http://www.latimes.com/HOME/NEWS/BOOKS/ At this time, February 15 is still posted. Is it possible that this article by Joana Long will appear there?
As a former history teacher, I think that both math and history can be taught a lot better than they often are which should result in students taking a more positive view to knowing about it. History, like anything that happens in life does become story. We can look at books that are now in publication that make history come alive. Russell Freedman, Milton Meltzer, Jean Fritz have all written wonderfully interesting books that tell good stories. Some of them are biographies, but without biography or the people in history, there would be very little to tell!!! As you know Richard Halliburton was also able to bring drama and life to people and places of long ago and not so long ago!!
I look forward to reading Joanna Long's piece and hope that I will be able to find here or on-line somewhere.
