I agree with Janice on Ella Enchanted. I found Ella to be a courageous and independent spirit in spite of her curse. Reading Ella brought back to me memories of those strong adolescent feelings of love. Also, what's wrong with "love," in this case a selfless love, being the thing that enables her to break the curse? What's wrong with finding someone who you love and who loves you?
One of the things I enjoyed most about Ella Enchanted was its humor. I think Levine's merging of fantasy, fairy tale, and a modern and very funny "voice" was a delight to read. Bravo for a fine and funny first novel. Patti Sinclair Madison, WI 608?6H48 x4109
