I too found a lot to like in this book--the humor, the food, the wonderful descriptions of the village where her grandmother lived and the way that family flowed into the hotel room and just took over, the streets, the Hindu shopkeeper, the Christian celebrations, etc. I was frustrated that there was so little description of the Armenian school since that's where she spent most of her day. And her mother was so totally optimistic all the time, I started to wonder whether she was on some kind of intense antidepressant and if so, whether I could get a prescription, which would have been useful before reading The Watcher, Out of the Dust, and Tangerine. I also found the fact that she happened to develop a love interest with a Jew to be a little pat. But these are all quibbles--it was a rich and hopeful book. I'm already thinking about who I can give it to.

Debby, who has already written enough already about how much she likes Seedfolks
