Walter thank you for sharing your views on "Wringer". I just got the book to read so will keep your comments in mind as I read it....Spinelli is very popular with our students.
All this past week, I have been sharing the Caldecott Awards with students K-5.( We are a suburb west of Boston)....students liked the illustrations in Harlem, warmed to the Gardener (In fact one group of students chose this book to donate to the library), laughed at the illustrations in "I Know an Old Lady", but sat still and hardly moved when I read or showed them the book Rapunzel. One second grade boy remarked about Rapunzel "that is a classic". Another indicator of the popularity is our reserve book list: Rapunzel was most requested, then "I know an Old Lady...." followed by The Gardner. No one requested Harlem.
Next week I am going to share the Coretta Scott King Awards...we will see how they play out with our students.
