Annually the Picturebook Class at the Center for the Study of Children's Literature at Simmons College in Boston concludes with a mock Caldecott. Each student prepares, for one of her final papers in the course, a three page defense of each of her three nominees for the award. This year the class gave the Caldecott Medal to The Gardener written by Sarah Stewart and illustrated by David Small. The Paper Dragon written by Marguerite W. Davol and illustrated by Robert Sabuda received the only Caldecott Honor.
