I gave the book to a 5th grade teacher who read it to her class. It sparked considerable discussion. The students were certainly interested. One student suggested that the garden is really the main character. I haven't read it in some time, but I seem to remember that quite a bit happened. Wasn't each of the characters changed in some significant way by the garden?
