Before the month ended I just wanted to quickly say that I agreed with the original poster, and when I first read it I could not believe that it would be considered a possibility for the Newbery because most of the characters were adults dealing with adult problems. I just read the description of the Newbery award, and it does read "It need not be written solely for children." And some subscribers have given testimonial that it is understood and enjoyed by their students. I always get mad when books win awards that I think the adults enjoy, but the children won't. But if they didn't win or get recognized, then I guess some good lessons or writing might be forgotten. I still vote for Ella Enchanted.
