I'm not a librarian, but I am part of an author team that writes picture books among other books. We often present picture books in a classroom or even auditorium setting, a real challenge. We've found it most effective to get permission from our publishers to make colored overheads of the illustrations. So far we haven't had any problem getting permission for classroom use. (You can get this done at Kinko's or if you have a colored laser printer, make them yourself. Kinko's will ask you to sign a release.) The teachers are usually glad to help us out by showing the overheads if we are reading in chorus; otherwise, we take turns presenting the text while the other reads. We've tried just holding the book up, but it's not as effective. There's something about those big pictures... Hope this helps.
