The emphasis on whole language or literature based programs in schools has made classroom teachers more aware of literature to use with students in many ways. More teachers want to include literature. Picture books which may have been considered too "babyish" 15 years ago are embraced by people today, whether is is the concise story used by an English teacher to provide an outline of plot, etc. or as a way to tie literature in to other subject areas. I always get requests from our middle school for books like "Pink and Say" or
"The mysteries of Harris Burdick". Florence McElligott Rosendale Elementary Niskayuna NY fmce at aol.com
