Has Haugard's (sp.?) "The Little Fishes" been named? It tells the story of WW II in the Naples region of Italty through the eyes of three children. The line from which the title is taken is VERY powerful--and a pretty fine summation of what war does to ordinary folk.

"After the Dancing Days? --WW I? (sorry, no time to hunt the shelves for the book)

And...don't forget the powerful poetry that war engenders in people.
