On Sept. 23, Susan Lempke's articulate, helpful comment about Common Ground made reference to her review of this book for the American Library Association journal Booklist. Please refer to Susan's published review as well as to her CCBC-NET comment for additional insight regarding Molly Bang's most recent book. Reasoning that her comment had not reached anyone in the CCBC-NET community, Susan brought this to my attention after reading my long message on October 1st. However, I take full responsibility for overlooking my own handwritten note to myself concerning her remarks about Common Ground. It's my unintentional oversight. Many apologies, Susan.
Shawn Brommer wrote to me personally last night with a touching personal anecdote about the book Dawn. I've encouraged Shawn to share this with everyone at any time.
Walter the Giant Storyteller's reference to hearing Molly Bang speak
(Children's Literature New England Institute in August at St. Michael's College) reminds me to say Bang's current interest in working directly with children provides them with a sequence of unique art explorations with elements of design. Bang's practice with children underscores what Christine Hill wrote early in September about Bang's book Picture This: Perception and Composition. (Little, Brown, c1991). Do look for this extremely helpful book your own. ... Ginny
