I second Lee's nomination of Paterson's Jacob Have I Loved. I've read it aloud, individually, to all four of my kids, and given it away to many adults, including my mother and my sister. The setting is World War II, but the topic is sibling rivalry. I think it and the Great Gilly Hopkins are Paterson's two best books, even better than Bridge to Teribithia (sp?).
