I didn't feel that the message was heavy handed the way Walter did. Perhaps it is because of the size of the book. Since it is relatively small, and the lovely patchwork-like illustrations are full of detail, I imagine this as a one-on-one book to be shared, and as such, I find it a very good discussion starter. I like the simplicity of the text and the way the author leads the reader from past to future. Thanks to K.T. for pointing it out.
