******************************************************************* Finally! The long-awaited second volume of Multicultural Literature for Children and Young Adults will be here on Sept. 15 (if not before!) Written by Ginny Moore Kruse, Kathleen T. Horning and Megan Schliesman, this indexed volume contains more than 350 books with themes/topics related to African Americans, American Indians, Asian Americans, and Latinos.
A typical entry consists of author, illustrator, translator, full title, publisher, copyright date, number of pages, ISBNs for currently-in-print books, interest level by ages, and a paragraph describing the book and indicating its merit. Full addresses are provided for small press publishers. An introduction to the annotations offers an overview of the importance books by and about people of color, as well as a comparison of multicultural literature available in the 1980s and the 1990s. Appendices cite authors and illustrators of color; ethnic/cultural groups represented in the books; and recommended professional resources about multicultural literature including awards from this perspective. Tana Elias created the Index.
