Are you planning to attend the conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on October 23%? K.T. Horning and I will be there, and I'm sure many in the CCBC-NET community have already made plans for this outstanding opportunity to gather with colleagues from North America and beyond.

This regional conference of the International Board on Books for Young People is presented by the U.S. Board on Books for Young People, an organization composed of individuals interested in the world of literature for youth. One of the features of the USBBY conferences is the unusually enriching mix of participants from several aspects of the children's literature community. This is due, in part, because USBBY's organizational members are the International Reading Association, the National Council of Teachers of English, the American Library Association and the Children's Book Council.

Conference speakrs are authors, illustrators, storytellers and publishers, including George Ancona, Paulette Atencio, Shonto Begay, Silvia Castrillon, Chris Curtis, Karen Cushman, Carmen Diana Dearden, Jean Craighead George, Katherine Hauth, Joe Hayes, Elena Iribarren, Michael LaCapa, Jean Little, Lois Lowry, Carolyn Meyer, Vaunda Nelson, Katherine Paterson, Jeanne Whitehouse Peterson, Runningwolf, Eleanor Schick, and Marc Talbert.

Advance Registration Deadline is Sept. 23: $170 for USBBY members and
$195 for non-members. On-site registration is possible for one day or for the entire conference.

For conference information, contact Richard van Dongen (rvand at unm.edu). Individual membership categories for USBBY begin at $25 a year.

Ask Richard van Dongen if you can include USBBY membership dues with your conference registration. The USBBY Newsletter edited by Mary Jo Aman is so outstanding, that even if you cannot attend the conference I urge you to consider joining USBBY for that reason alone (but there are many other good reasons for joining, as well.) See you there? I hope so! Be sure to introduce yourself! Sincerely, Ginny
