In the late 80s, I wrote an article on child molesters for the Washington Post. Did gobs of interviews, including one with a therapist who treated sexually abused children. He told me a case which he wouldn't let me mention because the kids were so identifiable at the time, but which he said encapsulated the treatment issues extremely well. These were twins who had been sexually molested by the same perp. The girl child had turned inward, become anorexic, depressed, and self-blaming. The male child had become violent, angry, and out of control.
This is industry-standard information--that most (but not all) females turn abuse inward, and most (but not all) males turn abuse outward. I assume that Cormier did his research and is juxtaposing the two.
