I am a returning student at the UW-Madison, working on my certification for grades 1-9. Last semester I took Ginny Moore Kruse's course on children's literature. Our first assignment was to write about ourselves as young readers. I wrote about two books that really influenced me as an adolescent: The Diary of Anne Frank and a book at I could only remember the title but not the author. It was I AM THE CHEESE.
After reading all the insightful comments about TENDERNESS I went to the library to see if they had a copy. Instead I discovered that Robert Cormier authored I AM THE CHEESE. I nearly dropped the stack of books that I was carrying. Now I have to read TENDERNESS and reread I AM THE CHEESE before the semester madness begins on Sept 2.
Thanks for reconnecting me to a book that I still remember after nearly 20 years. If anyone out there has any comments about I AM THE CHEESE I'd love to hear them. You can e-mail me directly at:
