It is very difficult to to form an understanding of "classics". Often I have really missed the mark when recommending a favorite or a "sure thing" to a young reader. But then I think; it's the journey, not the destination, that's important for them.
The recommendation of Rascal was a hit. Users of this space may be pleased to know that efforts by folks in Edgerton to restore Sterling North's home are complete.
Gordon's message regarding Wrinkle in Time hit the mark. As a teacher I noticed something "not right" when I shared it with students. This is the first time I have found others with thte same impression. I grew up with many of the really awful "classics" that adults told us to read. A few of the stories that I love to share with emerging readers are House of Wings, Sounder, The Cay, the Caleb and Me duo (kind of dated)
