I too have been a lurker here for awhile, but someone mentioned Harriet the Spy, and a flood of wonderful memories dashed through my mind. I was one of those children whose father forwarded adult spy novels to, so I didn't read many children's books as a child, but when I was in fourth grade, I purchased Harriet with my own money. I still have Harriet and have shared her with as many children as I can. She gives those of us who live in the rather puzzling world of adults (children AND adults included) some reassurance, and I've found that so many of those children that I share Harriet with echo similar sentiments. She teaches about friendship, loyalty and discovering life's secrets. A true classic, and, at 34, I still rediscover Harriet once or twice a year. We can all learn from her experiences.
