My third oldest daughter, Alice, is unlike her sisters. While they are both straight A students and are reading way above their grade level, Alice has struggled with school. I like to think she's on her own pace. Alice does love to read, however, and she reads a lot of series (Babysitters, Sweet Valley, American Girls). Until recently, she didn't seem interested in any of the "choice" books I brought home. Refusing to sweat about it, I kept waiting for her to grow tired of the series. She's still not tired of them, but this morning she surprised me when she casually said, "My all-time favorite books are Bridge to Teribithia, Shiloh, Number the Stars, and Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry." She was surprised when I told her they all four won the Newbery Award. Now she's working through the list of Newbery winners
(in between Karen's Little Sister), and her daddy is happy.
