What makes lasting science fiction to me is how the genre takes situations and human emotions and puts them in a world which is perhaps like but NOT our world. The morality and science can play out with a lasting quality. A science fiction/fantasy writer has to create a universe in which its own rules operate logically, but they can make observations about the human condition that we can relate to our world - whether it be a book for children or adult.
