It's been wonderful to hear from so many people who worked with Charlotte Zolotow who are able to write about her career as an editor.
Since Charlotte attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she studied with English professor Helen C. White, here at the Cooperative Children's Book Center (in Helen C. White Hall on the UW campus) we have maintained a special collection of the books with the Charlotte Zolotow imprint and a very interesting collection it is, too! She always published distinctive books by extraordinary writers. Books with her imprint include the work of such writers as Karla Kuskin, M.B. Goffstein, Patricia MacLachlan, Aidan Chambers, Laurence Yep, M.E. Kerr, Barbara Wersba, and Francesca Lia Block, as well as those writers you have heard from on CCBC-Net this past month: Ruth Gordon, Paul Fleischman, and Julie Reece Deaver. Thanks to the three of you for sharing some details about what it was like to work with Charlotte. Thanks, too, to Marc Aronson for writing from his perspective as an editor who worked with Charlotte as a colleague. The four of you have helped us all to see that Charlotte Zolotow's influence extends far beyond her own writing.
