If you can be anywhere near Madison, Wisconsin, on Thursday evening, June 12, you are invited to the free public events hosted by the Friends of the CCBC during which Kathleen Horning will speak and the Friends will raffle the Wonderful World Art Quilt many of you have seen and admired during the past several months.
KT Horning is the author of the book From Cover to Cover: Evaluating and Reviewing Children's Books (HarperCollins, 1997), and she will speak that evening about some of her perspectives on book evaluation. KT's book will be sold in hardcover and paperback editions _at_ 40% discount, and she will be available for autographing.
The Wonderful World Art Quilt was created by fabric artist Christie Brokish and given to the Friends for use as a fundraiser. Her design and colors were inspired by Ashley Bryan's art in the book What a Wonderful World (Atheneum, 1995). Picture this lovely art quilt hanging in your school or library or home. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the door _at_ $1.00 each. The raffle will follow KT's speech.
But that's not all: an ice cream social will follow the raffle. Eat all you can eat of the world famous Babcock Hall ice cream that evening while you visit with old and new friends of children's books and of the CCBC.
What an evening! The events begin at 7:00pm in 4207 Helen C. White Hall, on the UW-Madison campus at the corner of N. Park and Observatory Drive (metered parking _at_ 60 cents an hour is available in two parking garages under the building). No admission. You do not have to be a Friends member to attend. Tell others... See you there!
